Bonjour-hi tout le monde, welcome, bienvenue, ve hoÅŸ geldiniz!
I'm Dilek—a market design economist who went rogue, now advising on public finance. I also teach Social Policy at NYU Paris, which means I spend a lot of time around ideas and books and not nearly enough time around people (by choice, mostly).
In the my professional inner circles and among my students, I am known as the Elaine Benes of economics: opinionated, a little unruly, and probably right.
By training I'm an economist and writer. By nature I'm a lifelong reader. I believe the world is genuinely more beautiful with books in it—particularly literary fiction that I wish I had written myself. The economics and intersectional public policy I read falls into the same category: the kind of work that makes me wish I'd thought of first.
This publication library sits at the intersection of all of that—books, policy, and the occasional rogue thought from someone who prefers the library to the conference room.
I was previously on Substack, and am in the process of making this Ghost my permanent home. If you found your way here from there, welcome back. If you're new—I hope you find something worth staying for.
You can also find me on BlueSky, where I continue to vent.
